IDF Soldiers Not Alone
14.01.2009
In Chisinau office of JAFI, a video conference for parents was held with the Department for Care about Lone Soldiers "The Wings" in Jerusalem JAFI office.
Many young men who had left for Israel through JAFI youth programs made a very important decision for themselves - to serve in the IDF, to protect the safety of their new homeland. Service in IDF is a honorable duty and those who faithfully fulfill it enjoy a well-deserved respect in the society and many benefits by the state.
On the other hand, for those soldiers' parents who live in Moldova, it was important to see their children, to support them, to know how the service goes.
The parents participating in the video conference had the opportunity to talk with the Head of the "Wings" Department for Care about Lone Soldiers1 – Igal Shteynman, who spoke about what he and his colleagues do, what kind of real assistance they provide to soldiers.
The basis of this department is the factual support and assistance to young people: both in preparation for the army service, and in choosing a profession after the service. The department advises them on matters relating to benefits provided by Israel to this category of citizens.
The questions of the parents were warmly and substantially answered by Head of the JAFI mission in Chisinau Paula Lam-Haim. In particular, she said to the friends and relatives of the soldiers: "Both you and we can be proud of your children, and the State of Israel will always take care of them. Thank you!"
Then the head of the Jewish Agency mission solemnly presented souvenirs to all parents, including the coordinators of the Aliyah Department from Chisinau and Tiraspol, Svetlana Vozhevskaya and Larisa Dylda, whose daughters also serve now in IDF.
