Hamas and Fatah resume unity talks
01.04.2009
Rival Palestinian groups Hamas and Fatah on Wednesday resumed reconciliation talks aimed at producing a power-sharing government.
The previous round of talks broke down last month, threatening deeper Arab divisions and setting back efforts for a durable Israel-Hamas cease-fire.
The key sticking point is the new government's platform and to what extent Hamas would abide by past accords with Israel.
The official MENA news agency said Egypt's intelligence chief Omar Suleiman was leading the talks in Cairo.
Fatah's delegation is led by Ahmed Qurei (Abu Ala) and Nabil Shaath. The top Hamas negotiator is the group's deputy leader Moussa Abu Marzouk.
