Ukrainian Jewish charity vandalized
07.06.2009
A Jewish charity center was vandalized in Ukraine.
Unidentified attackers vandalized the Jewish charity Hesed Yahva in the Crimean city of Feodosia, painting swastikas and anti-Jewish slurs on the center’s walls.
The vandalism occurred on May 25, but was reported for the first time Friday.
Elena Kriulko, director of the charity, told JTA that in 2008 a local memorial to Holocaust victims was vandalized twice. She urged law enforcement agencies to conduct a thorough investigation of the charity vandalism
This most recent act of vandalism illustrates the lax attitude of local law enforcement agencies, as well as their attitude toward previous acts of vandalism and anti-Semitic manifestations, local Jewish activists told JTA.
