There needs to be a final solution for Zionists. The real Jews are the victims of Zionism,” wrote a senior staff member of Italy’s first Islamic university.

Raphael Villani, who works as administrative secretary of the university in Leece, southern Italy, made the statements in a Facebook post.

The Israeli Embassy forwarded the screenshots to a member of the Italian Senate’s Israel-Italy inter-parliamentary foundation, who filed a formal inquiry with the Italian Interior and Education ministries.

The Union of Italian Jewish communities (UCEI) also issued a joint protest with the embassy. The post was later removed.

The Osservatorio Antisemitismo, an anti-Semitism monitoring group, had noted that “anti-Semitic and anti-Zionist posts appear often” on Villani’s Facebook page, which is public.

The Islamic University in Italy was founded mainly by Italian converts to Islam. News of its development prompted controversy last year in Lecce.
