The Simon Wiesenthal Centre has denounced the signing of a cooperation agreement in sports between the Palestinian Authority and Germany because it was signed by Jibril Rajoub, the president of the Supreme Council for Sport and Youth Affairs in the Palestinian Authority, who is known for his outspoken support for Palestinian terror attacks against Israelis.

In its recent report The Rajoub File, Palestinian Media Watch (PMW) also documented Jibril Rajoub's embargo on peacebuilding Palestinian-Israeli sports activities. During the latest wave of Palestinian attacks against Israelis, Rajoub congratulated terrorist murderers, telling them: "You are heroes and we bless you ... you are a crown on our heads."

When a friendly football match took place between 11-year-old Israeli and Palestinian boys after the Gaza War in 2014, Rajoub called it a "crime against humanity."

In addition, the Palestinian Football Association, which will be the beneficiary of a German football expert paid for by Germany, supervises an annual sporting event named after arch-terrorist Abu Jihad. According to the Palestinian Authority's own documentation, terrorist Abu Jihad was responsible for the murder of 125 people.

The German representative to "Palestine", Peter Beerwerth, has announced 'his pride' in financing the Palestinian sports agency responsible for naming all stadiums, tournaments and clubs in honour of the terrorist murderers of Jews. Among them is the organizer of the 1972 Munich Olympics massacre of the Israeli athletic team who was also responsible for the murder of two American diplomats.

Germany's signing of an agreement with Rajoub is seen to be in stark contrast to some German Parliament Members' condemnation of possible German funding of terror-supporting PA activities, specifically the PA's honoring terrorists by paying them salaries in prison.

The Simon Wiesenthal Centre urged German Chancellor Angela Merkel “ to suspend this unthinkable agreement until the Palestinian Authority removes all names of terrorists from all sectors of Palestinian sport and their acts of terror be publicly condemned by Ramallah”

Shimon Samuels, the centre’s Director for international relations, argued,“By linking their sports heroes with anti-Semitic terrorists, the Palestinian Authority deliberately foments hate among its youth thereby extinguishing the hope for peace. If Berlin wishes to reignite the spirit of peace, it should perhaps invite Israeli and Palestinian football teams for a "friendly" match, despite Sports Minister Rajoub’s definition of sports encounters of young Palestinians with their Israeli peers as a 'crime against humanity".
