A kosher restaurant in Manchester was set on fire during the night, in what police are treating as an “arson attack”.

The ground floor of JS Kosher Restaurant, the oldest Jewish restaurant in the British city, was reportedly badly injured. There are no reports of injured in the fire.

In a statement, Manchester Police said they were “investigating an arson attack’’ at the restaurant.

The Community Security Trust (CST), the body responsible for the security of the Jewish community in the U.K., said: "We are working very closely with the Great Manchester Police but there is no specific information at this time to prove that the attack was or was not anti-Semitic and we don’t want to jump to any conclusions about what has occurred.

"We will be sending out security advice to restaurants and shops in Greater Manchester today but this is purely precautionary".

Following the recent terror attacks in London and Manchester, CST has requested that the community ‘’be calm, vigilant and cooperates with security measures at UK Jewish communal locations.’’
