New Israel-UK Center to be inaugurated in Jerusalem

A new 'Center for UK-Israel Relations' wil be inaugurated next week in Jerusalem.

The center will bear the name of Sir Naim Dangoor, an Iraqi born British businessman and philanthropist who supported projects in the fields of medicine and education in Britain and other countries around the world, including Israel.

It will be inauguratred at Mishkenot Sha’ananim, an international cultural institution and conference center, by Sir Dangoor’s son, David, former President of the Board of The S&P Sephardi Community, the oldest Jewish community in the UK spanning over 350 years.

After the inauguration, senior British and Israeli officials will convene at Mishkenot Sha’ananim to discuss the past, present and future of British-Israeli relations at a conference titled “From Balfour to Brexit.”

Among those speaking at the event will be former British Prime Minister and Special Envoy of the Quartet Tony Blair, Lord Roderick Balfour, the 5th earl of Balfour, and descendant of the Lord Arthur Balfour, Israeli Ambassador to Britain Mark Regev, Chairman of the Jewish Agency for Israel Natan Sharansky, former Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni and CEO of BICOM James Sorene.

“Britain and Israel’s recent past has been deeply intertwined and it behooves us on the anniversary of the Balfour Declaration and the ongoing Brexit negotiations to explore what lies in the future for British-Israeli relations and its impact on the British Jewish community,” Moti Schwartz, Director General of Mishkenot Sha’ananim, an international cultural institution and conference center located in Jerusalem, which is hosting the event said.
