The trial of Abdelkader Merah, brother of the islamist terrorist who killed four at a Jewish school in Toulouse in 2012 has started in a special court in Paris.

Merah, 35, is tried for his complicity in the slayings by Mohammed Morah at the Toulouse school, as well as three soldiers in Mautauban.

Mohammed Merah gunned down three children and a teacher at the Ozar Hatorah school. He was killed in a shootout with police at an apartment three days after the school killings.

Abdelkader Merah supported his brother spiritually and psychologically in his becoming a terrorist, the prosecution said.

Born to a family of four children, Mohammed Merah was “raised to be an anti-Semite because anti-Semitism was part of the atmosphere at home,” his youngest brother, Abdelghani, has said.

Abdelkader Merah appeared at the court alongside 34-year-old Fettah Malki, accused of giving Mohamed Merah a bulletproof jacket, an Uzi submachine gun and the ammunition he unloaded on his victims.

Neither man denies giving Merah the items, but both have claimed they were unaware of his intentions.

Abdelkader Merah faces a possible life sentence while Malki could get 20 years in prison.
