Almaty Jewish community celebrated the most cheerful and loud holiday of the Jewish calendar.

                  17.03.2003

The tradition of creaking Purim's gragers, so that the name of Aman is not heard, turns Purim into the most cheerful and loud holiday of the Jewish calendar.
In the middle of March, the Jewish community of Almaty was being noisy and was laughing in the Lermontov Drama theater. The organizers of the festival (the Consulate Department of the Embassy of the State of Israel, "Joint", Euro-Asian Jewish Congress, "Mitzvah" Association, "Polina" Hesed, "Rimon" JCC, Jewish Congress of Kazakhstan, "Or-Avner" Association, and Jewish Religious Center) tried to do everything possible so that the supply of joy and fun received by the Jews of Almaty be enough for the entire year.
"Saying the word of congratulations, I turn not only to you, my brothers present in this hall", said in his introduction speech Alexander Baron, the President of the "Mitzvah" Association of Jewish Ethnic Organizations of the Republic of Kazakhstan. "I also greet the Jews of 92 settlements of Kazakhstan who have joined us in celebrating Purim. We are happy that even the distance is not able to break the unity of the Jewish community! Purim, shalom!"
The community was greeted by Moshe Kimkhi, the Ambassador of the State of Israel in Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan; Dan Meiri, the Consul of the State of Israel in Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan; Fedor Osinin, the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress Executive Director, the Rabbi Elkhagan Kogen, and the Rabbi Shevakh Zlatopolskiy, the President of the "Or-Avner" EUVK.
And all of a sudden, everyone present in the hall got taken into the colorful and cheerful music rotation of the carnival!
The holiday of transformation put masks on the faces of the guests and actors. Ester the Beauty and Mordekhai the Wise could be seen everywhere. Huge was the number of actors and actresses performing the role of Ester and Mordekhai on stage in an only several hours' show!
The restless "Rimon" Community center would not let the audience relax, not even for a second. The performance by the members of the Family, Youth and Women's clubs conquered the hearts of the audience with their art. Colorful costumes, made-up faces, smiles and laughter would burst here and there, igniting the audience. Following the loud crowd of the kids, joy and fun consumed everything and everyone on their way.
A performance by the famous singer Alexander Rekhels was a pleasant surprise for the community members.
The celebrations moved smoothly from the stage to the lobby. The guests were awaited by live music and cheerful clowns.
The merriment was growing at the speed of an avalanche. The territory of the theatre was not enough. The holiday poured into the streets and, carried by a warm spring breeze, went across the planet!
