Anti-Semitism in CIS Countries - 2014: EAJC Report

Anti-Semitism in CIS Countries - 2014: EAJC Report

                  21.05.2015, Xenophobia and anti-Semitism

The Euro-Asian Jewish Congress (EAJC) has prepared the 12th annual report on anti-Semitism in CIS countries in time for the opening of the Fifth Global Forum for Combating Anti-Semitism, which took place in Jerusalem.

The report includes information on reported anti-Semitic incidents and Judophobic propaganda in 2014 in Azerbaijan, Belarus, Moldova, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, and Ukraine.

According to our experts, post-Soviet territory remains a region with a relatively low level of anti-Semitism in comparison to Western Europe. Unlike in many countries, anti-Semitic violence and vandalism did not increase in the CIS during Operation Protective Edge, which attacked the infrastructure of the HAMAS terroristic organization in the Gaza Strip.

According to the data presented by German Federal Minister of Justice Heiko Maas at the opening of the Forum, Germany alone had 10 times the number of violent anti-Semitic incidents than the CIS as a whole.

Vyacheslav Likhachev is the editor of the EAJC reports on anti-Semitism since 2003. The text of the report, edited by Vyacheslav Likhachev, can be downloaded here in *.pdf format.
