The President of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress (EAJC) Alexander Mashkevich was a guest of honor at the ceremonial opening of the XII World Congress of Russian Press, which took place in Tel-Aviv.

The opening of the forum, which gatherered over 500 journalists from 50 countries, numbered the following among its participants: Prime Minister of the State of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu; head of the Administration of the President of the Russian Federation Sergey Naryshkin; Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Israel Avidgor Lieberman; Minister of Information and Diaspora Yuli-Yoel Edelstein; Minister of Immigrant Absorption; and Minister of TourismStas Meseznikov. The ceremony was led by the director of the Association of Russian-speaking Journalists Michael Gilboa.

After the end of the official part, a reception for the participants of the forum was organized by the EAJC and the Israeli Association of Russian-speaking Journalists. Participation in the organization of the reception became yet another gesture of solidarity with Israel that the EAJC regularly conducts. The leadership of the Congress believes that focused work with the mass media is a most important way of forming a positive image of Jews and the Jewish state in the public mind.
Among those who spoke salutations at the reception were: head of the World Association of Jewish Press Vitaliy Ignatenko, Head Ashkenazi Rabbi of Israel Yona Metzger, the recently appointed Ambassador of the State of Israel to Russia Dorrit Golender, and EAJC President Alexander Mashkevich.
In his speech, the EAJC leader noted the importance of the media in forming tolerance. “The future of our children, of our world, depends on the ability of different people to coexist on this little planet. To live near each other, to live together. The EAJC has been working for many years to create and develop dialogue between different religions and cultures, to nurture tolerance. We search and find allies in the Muslim world, and together with our brothers and sisters in Israel want an involved dialogue with representatives of other religions.”
Alexander Mashkevich called the journalists to objectivity when forming the image of the State of Israel. “Look around you, talk to the people, and then tell people the truth. Of how Israel works and lives, desires peace, fights terrorism, builds, loves, raises its children... Tell the trith, and that will be the best way to support Israel, which is a state where hundreds of thousands people for whom Russian is their native language live today.”
