Belarus

The Republic of Belarus is the legal successor of the Belarus SSR. Its area is 207 000 km2, and its population is 9,663 million.

In 1994, Belarus became a presidential republic. The head of state is the President, and this post has been filled since 1994 by Alexander Lukashenko. The highest legislative and representative organ  is the National Assembly of Belarus, which is a bicameral parliament that includes the House of Representatives and the Council of the Republic.
