Kyrgyzstan

The Republic of Kyrgyzstan is an independent state that is the legal successor of the Kyrgyz SSR. The first consitution of the republic was adopted on May 5, 1993. The head of state is the president, and the current President is Kurmanbek Bakiyev  (inaugurated in July 2005).  The legislature is the Supreme Council of Kyrgyzstan, (Jogorku Kengesh) a unicameral parliament.

Kyrgyzstan has an area of 198,9 thousand km2, and a population of 5,276 million. The capital of the republic is Bishek.
